This event served as a platform to discuss water related issues such as increasing water shortages and poor quality of water, as well as the importance of exchanging experiences about the management of water with a view to achieve the UN Sustainable Development Goals on water.

This forum follows other important water related accomplishments as the rise of hidrodiplomacy and the entry into force of the United Nations Convention on Non-navigational Uses of International Watercourses in August 2014, which is a fundamental milestone for the global management of transboundary waters.

The IUCN-ELC, played an important role during the forum by sharing its experiences from BRIDGE in transboundary water management and hidrodiplomacy, as well as by conveying the message about the need to have greener international water laws based on an ecosystem approach.
